Mayors for Peace is the leading international organization devoted to protecting cities from the scourge of war and mass destruction. The 2020 Vision Campaign is the primary campaigning body of Mayors for Peace. It arose out of the “Emergency campaign to ban nuclear weapons” launched by Mayors for Peace in 2003, and its focus is nuclear disarmament, although the Mayors for Peace Covenant gives the organization a mandate to work on a broad range of issues from the elimination of poverty to the protection of the environment. The 2020 Vision Campaign, with its ambitious goal of abolishing nuclear weapons by 2020, provides a focal point for Mayors for Peace and represents a high level of sustained activism.
